About Alex

Alex is an award-nominated documentary filmmaker, with a passion for premium documentaries about history and culture.

He’s directed films across the globe, from Tahiti to Senegal, Romania to the USA, Lithuania to Ethiopia - often working with presenting talent. With a reputation as a strong writer, he enjoys crafting his films through the edit.

He most recently directed the lead episode of Britain Behind Bars: A Secret History, a history series for C4 presented by former Barrister Rob Rinder about the creation of the British penal system. It premiered in July 2024 to more than 1m viewers and 4* reviews in The Guardian & The Telegraph.

Other recent directing & writing credits include: an arts travelogue series for BBC Two (Africa Rising with Afua Hirsch) which achieved critical acclaim and 4* reviews in The Guardian and The Daily Mail, and ‘critics choice’ and ‘pick of the day’ in The Independent, The Times, The Observer, The Radio Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, and The Mail on Sunday.

Before that, he directed a biographical documentary about Bruce Lee (Bruce Lee: A Life In Ten Pictures); a landmark history series about mankind’s changing relationship with nature (Nature and Us: A History Through Art); and an art history series shot across Africa (African Renaissance: When Art Meets Power).

As well as directing, Alex also works as a Development Executive.
